Singapore pitstop

Beryl and Terry stopped by in Singapore on their way to Sabah recently. Old Asia hands, they seem to spend as much time here in Southeast Asia as they do in Willoughby on the Wolds. Not that Willoughby isn't exotic itself, if course. We went for chilli crab in the East Coast; a great restaurant although the food could have been a little better this night. In hindsight, the day after Chinese New Year is probably not the best to eat at a Chinese restaurant, the chefs having slaved over the woks for two straight weeks. It was probably the 3rd and 4th woks on duty that night.
A friend of mine is producing a book about the history of motor racing in Singapore and I was reminded that Terry (and Beryl) used to race here in the early 1970s. Apparently motor racing was big in the late 60s and early 70s at a track in Old Upper Thompson; there was even a Singapore Grand Prix in those days. Of course Sandy and I are waiting for the F1 night race later this year. The following photos are lifted from: Good Morning Yesterday. Terry, if you have a photo of you and Beryl racing in Singapore, do email it over!
