happy birthday Shah!

Jonathan threw a surprise party for Shah to celebrate the big something-zero. The surprise was that Shah showed up at all as Jonathan was having trouble reaching her on the mobile. The party comprised two groups of alcoholics: the Hash House Harriers, who run and drink; and the Cable Car regulars who, sensibly, just sit and drink (no prizes for guessing which group yours truly belongs to). The venue for the party was a beautiful house in central London, at least that's what it felt like having navigated Oxford Street and Park Lane, passed Hampstead Gardens and whizzed round Piccadilly Circus to find the house. The coconut trees in the garden didn't fit with London though and sure enough we were in Seletar Airbase in the northeast of Singapore. The Hashers organised a mobile bar -- a van parked in the field behind the house offered draft Carlsberg on tap -- and everybody brought a slab of meat for the barbie. I found a good deal at Espirito Santo, the Brazilian gourmet butcher in Great World: five huge kebabs (I chose lamb), ten chilli chicken wings and five large sausages (spicy lamb) all for S$50! Very reasonable. Thanks Jonathan and Shah for a great evening and happy birthday Shah.
