New Year walk on Cley marshes, Norfolk
Jan 2nd, 2009 by islandhippy
Sandy, Olive and I joined Mum and Dad on a bracing walk from the windmill in Cley-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, through Cley marshes to the shingle beach, and back again.
- Cley Windmill dates back to the 1700s
- Birdwatching in the marshes. We saw redshank, reed bunting and little egrets.
- “I’m all chin and nose” Dad
- I have a 9kg limpet mine attached to me
- Looking for reed bunting in Cley marshes
- The Cley marshes are home to bittern, avocet, spotted redshank, marsh harrier, woodcock, huge numbers of waterfowl, waders and Brent geese.
- Next stop Denmark
- Cold winds in Siberia-next-to-the-Sea
- Olive coping well with the 34 degree drop in temperature
- Sea fishing on the shingle beach at Cley
- It’s fish for dinner.
- Bayfield Hall is a beautiful Georgian house set in a 200-acre estate
- On the way back from the walk we stopped at Back to the Garden farm shop, voted the best in Norfolk by The Times, for lunch and supplies
- No high chairs at the farm shop so Olive commandiered a shopping trolley

What fabulous pictures – looks a lovely Christmas. Can’t wait to see you all. Is that you or your dad in the black wooly hat?! Px
