Thank god Mum and Dad sent Sandy and I a wedding anniversary card from England otherwise I would have forgotten our 6th wedding anniversary today. I quickly cancelled after-work drinks with Xavi, my Spanish book cover designer, and reserved a table for dinner.

Six years already, hory clap! We've been living together for 8 years, we've been a couple for 12 years and we've known each other for about 13 or 14 years. Oh my gawd!

Sandy and I ate way too much food in England over Christmas and are both trying to shed a few pounds so we settled on a simple dinner to celebrate: spicy jellyfish, chilled sliced pork shank, crispy roast pork, sautéed venison, spinach with garlic and braised noodles. Little Miss Olive came along for the ride and had great fun practicing her high-pitched scream throughout dinner. Any other restaurant and we might have been embarrassed but this was Tung Lok Signatures and Olive was only laughing at the staff. When we asked one waiter what the homemade sauce was in "rack of lamb with homemade sauce", he replied: "it's homemade". And the waitress refused to serve Sandy iced tea. "Do you have hot tea?" "Yes." "Do you have ice?" "Yes." "Can I have a pot of tea and a glass of ice because it's 91°F outside?" "No."
