dolphin slaughter in Japan

This evening Sandy and I went to the cinema for the first time since Olive was born ... she's 16 months old! We celebrated this happy event by watching a documentary about dolphin slaughter! "The Cove" is a powerful documentary – so well edited that it's like watching a thriller – about dolphins being slaughtered in the town of Taiji in Japan. Amazing stuff. Watch the movie, which has already won a host of film awards, to find out more or check out www.savejapandolphins.com. I'm glad to see from the director's blog that the success of the film has resulted in the suspension of the town's regular dolphin slaughter, and that the plan to supply dolphin meat, contaminated with dangerously high levels of mercury, to Japanese school kids has been shelved. If you're based in Singapore, the movie is showing at Cinema Europa, the arthouse cinema in Vivo City.
