mid-autumn festival (aka lantern or mooncake festival)
Oct 4th, 2009 by islandhippy
Last night we celebrated the Chinese mid-autumn festival with a mooncake BBQ-cum-lantern parade at Karen and James' house down the road. Each of the five toddlers present carried their own lantern, from the traditional candle-in-paper variety to the battery-operated-musical-flashing-inflatable kind. I believe we were supposed to eat mooncakes but everybody was so stuffed after the BBQ that we gave that a miss. I've just noticed on Wikipedia that some people also celebrate this festival by putting pomelos (huge grapefruits) on their head! I cannot believe I didn't read that before the party. That's the kind of thing I like to do anyway after a few drinks! Next year I'm hosting the BYO pomelo mid-autumn festival party.
